An overview of Lahore Tweetup 2009

Just when the whole nation was celebrating the 62nd Independence day of Pakistan, the Pakistani twitterers gathered in a cafe in Gulberg II for the Lahore Tweetup ’09. Sponsored by Intel and Wateen, the event was attended by more than hundred twitterers. After the first edition of the event in Karachi, this tweetup was basically arranged for the Lahori twitterers but a number of bloggers and twitterers from Islamabad and other cities also attended the event.

The event started off at around 3:30PM with the National Anthem. The further proceedings were moderated by Badar Khushnood, Pakistan country consultant Google Inc, and Rabia Garib, chief editor CIO Pakistan. The agenda of the event was to give an opportunity to the twitterers to meet and discuss the current blogging and tweeting trends.

As accordance with the 14th August, the twitterers were requested to bring some valuable information and share interesting facts, figures and things that people usually don’t know about our country. Some interesting suggestions were also given by the twitterers which mostly focused on how to improve Pakistan’s image in the world. Twitterers and bloggers stressed on the need of projecting the good image of Pakistan by representing the country in healthy exercises. The audience also discussed the different achievements that our country has achieved in the recent years.

The organizers had arranged a Hi-tea for the participants. After the tea session, almost all the twitterers gave a short message, promising how they are going to help Pakistan Pakistan progress in the years to come. In the closing remarks Badar Khushnood announced Pakistan’s first ever blog awards. The details of the blog awards have not yet been revealed.

The event was tweeted with the #LTU09 hashtag on twitter. The whole event was covered by Dawn TV and was also live streamed on internet.  Here is the recorded stream of the event.
