It is revealed in a research, conducted by the Institute of Space and Planetary Astrophysics (ISPA) Karachi, that the Shawwal moon will be visible on 20th of September in the whole Islamic World. Which means that all the Muslims of the world shall celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on the same day, that is, 21st September 2009.
According to the research the ‘new-moon’ will take place on 19th of September BUT it will set within minutes after sunset which means it will be really difficult for the moon to be sighted in Asia, Australia, Europe, Central Africa and North Africa. The only two places where it can be sighted on Saturday are Southern parts of Africa and America. However the Crescent will be easily visible on 20th September in the whole world.
It would be interesting to see what happens in Pakistan, because we always have more than one Eid-ul-Fitrs every year.
Update 1: Tomorrow Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in the Middle East.
Update 2: The provincial Ruet-e-Hilal committee has announced that tomorrow Eid-ul-Fitr will be officially celebrated in NWFP.
