Pakistan’s Internet technology achieved new heights on Sunday when the first ever e-village of the country was inaugurated. Mira Bagwal, a small village in the Islamabad Capital Territory, has been given the status of an e-village and is provided with a 2MB Broadband Internet connection. The residents of the village have also been provided with the facility of video conferencing, which they will use for consulting with specialist doctors in case of any disease.
Mira Bagwal is the first of the 300 villages which will have Broadband Internet connectivity. E-dispensaries and E-libraries will also be established in these villages which will give the much needed exposure to the young students of these villages. Moreover, it will also help the residents of these villages to market their products online.
During the last couple of years the Broadband Internet has spread very rapidly throughout the country. It all started when PTCL and other private Internet Service Providers ( ISP) launched Broadband packages at affordable rates. The restructuring of the infrastructures of these ISPs, replacement of the old Copper wires with Fibre Optic cables has increased the Broadband Internet usage throughout the country.

Great job by PSA chairman Mr Ammar Jafri. Such projects can change the destiny of villages and thus of pakistani nation…I request the NGOs to come forward and assist this project in execution as well as for sustainability…
Well done PSA and Keep it up…
