PakistanFlag-1Country is not just a geographical region or a landscape but it is a nation’s strength and identity. It is a place where one’s principles and beliefs are practiced. As George William Curtis said “A man’s country is not a certain area of land, of mountains, of rivers and woods, but it is a principle; and patriotism is loyalty to that principle”.

This has been proved by our fore fathers who have survived and sacrificed to get this piece of land, our Pakistan. It is a place where we can practice our own religion and principles easily. It is our identity. But it’s so sad that we have forgotten our responsibilities towards our country. Our young generation always strives to flee their own country their own identity. Usually we blame our country by saying that there is nothing here; we don’t remember what we have done in the betterment of our country.

The Shanaakht festival 2009

Its time for you to rediscover your identity because The Citizen Archive of Pakistan ( CAP) proudly brings the second edition of Shanaakht festival. Organizers have planned a series of events all revolving around the basic aim of rediscovering identity of Pakistani people. The festival will be held in Karachi Arts Council, starting from April 8, 2009 and runs till 12th of April.

The five days festival aims to have lectures from renowned scholars highlighting Pakistan’s past and present identity. Based on this year’s theme early Pakistan, the festival includes photo and art exhibitions, interactive plays, documentaries, story telling, street theater and a lot more. The festival will be accessible for general public.

This year’s festival is sequel of the first Shanaakht festival which took place in August 2007. The first edition experienced great success and was appreciated by people from every walk of life.

The Citizen Archive of Pakistan is a non-profit society founded in 2007. The aim of this society is to preserve the history, culture and identity of Pakistan and Pakistani people as to make it available for the generations to come.

Lahorites finally got permission to celebrate Basant festival only for one day, starting from the evening of 14th and going till the evening of 15th March. 

The provincial government has reportedly taken the precautionary measures. The use of Metallic and Chemical strings is still prohibited while the law enforcement agencies would make sure that kite flying near high power transmission power supply lines does not happen.

Earlier in the day there was a serious shortage of kites in the market as police had confiscated the kites in great numbers during raids a couple of days ago.
