  1. Don’t stop giving insulin
  2. Don’t change child’s diet
  3. Give plenty of water
  4. Consult with doctor for over the counter medication
  5. carefully monitor your child blood glucose levels

Don’t stop giving your child insulin, even if the youngster doesn’t have much of an appetite. Call the child’s doctor if you’re not sure about how to administer insulin during a sick day.

MKRF establishes Polio control cell in Marriot Islamabad

PolioThe MKRF (Mir Khalil Ur Rehman Foundation) has established a Polio control cell in the Marriot Hotel Islamabad in collaboration with the UNICEF. Though the body of polio cell is in Islamabad but it’s virtually working Nationwide.

This step of MKRF is basically taken due to the current flood and bad sewage system in many parts of the country, since the polio virus has its favorite conditions to develop in this situation.

Well the cell is working on a simple procedure, whenever a polio case is detected in any part of the country, just a call has to be made at a toll free number 0800-76546, and as soon as the call is received, the respected EDO (Executive District Officer) of Health department will be activated along with the polio team and the patient will be attended.

Being a 3rd World country this is a marvelous step in the development of a stronger Pakistan. Through the Polio control programs a significant decrease in Polio cases has been witnessed over the years.

Is there any threat of swine flu?

Ministry of Health has ordered screening of all the passengers on all airports of Pakistan. They have also communicated to all the heads of educational institutions both provisional and federal, to issue a circular to the parents advising them not to send children with flu like symptoms to school. Moreover, all heads of the hospitals across the country has been updated to carefully record the patients travel history with flu like symptoms. They are also advised to be protective while handling such patients. These all announcements were made by the Director General Health Dr. Rasheed Jooma in a press conference.

Dr. Rasheed Jooma confirmed that Pakistan at the moment is not facing any immediate threat to swine flu. These announcements are just precautionary measures in order to detect the H1N1 virus that causes the swine flu. It is caused by a parasite called Plasmodium, which is transmitted via the bite of infected female mosquito. If serious steps are not taken, then it may cause life threatening problems.
