Yesterday the government officials announced that there will be no load shedding in the residential sector. The announcement came days after the inauguration of Pakistan’s first Wind Power plant.

Load shedding is the response to a situation in which the load of a particular area crosses the power supply capability of the network. From the last couple of years it had been a serious problem for Pakistan as government failed to react according to the exponential rise in power demands. Up till 2004 the electricity generation capacity in Pakistan was 15,056 Mega Watt while the demand was approximately 14000 Mega Watt. But according to analysts, this demand will go uphill to about 20,000 Mega Watts by 2010. The main unexpected and surprising exponential demand came in the year 2007 when the gap between generation and requirement raised to 2500 Mega Watts scarily. » Read more: Nomore loadshedding in residential sector?
